Man United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims to be victim of "undercover racism" from Swedish media
Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims he has been the victim of undercover racism in his native Sweden.
The Manchester United striker hit out at the media in his homeland and accused them in a typically forthright interview of attacking him when they should be defending him after all he has done for Swedish football.
Ibrahimovic, who was born in Malmo to a Bosnian father and Croatian mother and grew up in the immigrant populated district of Rosengard, said: “What do the Swedish media do? Do they defend me or jump and attack me?
“No, they still attack me. Because they cannot accept that I am Ibrahimovic.
“If another Swedish player would do the same mistake I do they would defend him.
“But when it comes to me they don't defend me. But it is ok for me, because this is what makes me stronger.
"But they are not defending me in the way they should. Because prob I am the best player through history in Sweden."This exists. I am 100 per cent sure. Because I am not Andersson or Svensson. If I would be that trust me they would defend me, and if I would rob a bank they would defend me, I tell You.
"What I did for football in Sweden has never happened."
When it was put to him that it might be because he is perceived as arrogant, Ibrahimovic told French TV station Canal Plus: "It doesn't matter. I am the best there is. Are you proud, appreciative of what you have or you are not?"
